PSA: My cast iron handle snapped off while I was moving it to the sink

It happened last Tuesday, I was carrying my big 12 inch pan from the stove and the handle just broke clean off. The pan fell and put a huge dent in my kitchen floor. I think the metal was weak from years of getting too hot too fast. Has anyone fixed something like this, or is the pan just done for?

Saw that and flinched. My old pan is held together with hope and a prayer at this point.

Oh man, I feel that. But honestly, if it's a nonstick pan that's flaking, you gotta toss it. The coating can chip off into your food, and that stuff isn't good for you. A scratched up pan is more than just a kitchen battle scar.

My roommate in college used a flaking pan for a whole semester because he was broke. He would just pick the black bits out of his eggs. Looking back, that was pretty gross and probably not safe. I finally bought a cheap cast iron skillet to replace it, and he acted like I gave him a car. Some people just get weirdly attached to bad cookware.
