Shoutout to the old timer who fixed my seasoning at a flea market
I was at the Shipoke Flea Market in Harrisburg last summer carrying a rusty #8 skillet when this older guy named Hank stopped me. He pulled out a coarse salt shaker and showed me how to scrub it with salt and a dry rag right there on a card table. Has anyone else picked up a random tip from a stranger that totally saved your pan?

Oh sure, @robin836, old tricks stick around because they actually work.

I read somewhere that the salt trick is actually one of the oldest ways to clean cast iron, way before all these fancy soaps and chainmail scrubbers came along. Sounds like Hank knew what he was doing.
