Swapped my $5 chainmail scrubber for a $30 one and it was worth every penny

I picked up a cheap chainmail scrubber from a discount store last year and it was just too flimsy. The rings kept popping apart and leaving little metal bits in my pan. So I spent $30 on a nicer one from a local kitchen shop in Nashville and it's been solid for 4 months now. No broken rings and it actually strips stuck on food way faster. My seasoning stays put too because I don't have to scrub as hard. Has anyone else had bad luck with the bargain versions?

oh totally, i actually read somewhere that the cheap ones are made with thinner wire and looser rings so they just fall apart way faster. that makes sense why yours started shedding metal bits, thats scary lol. i got a midrange one from a kitchen show last year and its been night and day compared to the dollar store junk i had before. the heavier gauge rings just grab onto the carbon steel better without needing to push so hard, so my seasoning doesnt get wrecked either. glad the upgrade worked out for you, its one of those things where you really do get what you pay for.

You really do get what you pay for" is what got me. I used to be the guy who figured a chainmail scrubber is just a ball of metal, how different could they be? I grabbed the cheapest one off Amazon and honestly thought people complaining were just being picky. But after reading your post and seeing how the heavier rings actually grab the seasoning instead of tearing it off, I'm starting to think I was wrong. Maybe I finally got my money's worth out of that lesson.
