TIL you don't need to baby cast iron at a campsite
I used to treat my pan like glass until I took it camping near Lake Tahoe last fall. Let it sit with leftover chili overnight by accident, scrubbed it with sand the next morning, and the seasoning survived fine. Anyone else find their pans are tougher than people say?

That "don't baby it" moment is so real, @jana_davis90. Reminds me of how we treat a lot of things in life, like we're terrified of breaking them until one day we don't and realize they were built to take a beating. I had the same thing with my car - was so careful about every little scratch until I took it on a gravel road and came back with a chip in the paint, car still runs perfect. Seems like the more we try to protect stuff, the more fragile we think it is. Next thing you know you're scrubbing a pan with mud and it's still your favorite one.

Has anyone else had that moment where you just stop babying your pan and it's fine? I've got a beat up old Lodge I've had for years. I was so scared of ruining it until I left it out in the rain one time, wiped it dry, and cooked eggs the next day no problem. Feels like most of the "rules" are good advice but not some hard limit.
