Took me 3 skillets to realize I was washing them way too hard

I used to scrub my cast iron with steel wool and dish soap every single time I cooked. Thought I was being thorough. Then last month my sister in law came over and saw me doing it and just stared at me. She asked why I was trying to strip the seasoning off on purpose. That's when it clicked. I'd been ruining a good layer of seasoning every time I washed it. Now I just use a stiff brush and hot water, maybe a little salt if something is stuck. Has anyone else had a moment where someone just watched you cook and pointed out something obvious?

Man that's brutal but hilarious. You were basically giving it an exfoliating spa treatment every night while it just wanted to relax and build up some character.
