Tried the potato skin and salt scrub thing my grandma mentioned

I cut up a russet potato, covered the pan in coarse salt, and went to town. After ten minutes of scrubbing, the salt just made a huge mess and the potato turned to mush. It did not get the baked on cheese off my 10 inch skillet at all. I ended up just using my normal chain mail scrubber with hot water. Has anyone else had a family trick totally flop on them?

Honestly that sounds like a lot of work for a mess. My grandma's go-to was just to soak stuff overnight, which also never worked.

My old roommate swore by the 20 minute soak rule. I thought it was pointless until I tried it on a baking sheet. The grease wiped right off with zero scrubbing.

Oh man that's wild, I had the same thing happen with a dried on lasagna pan except I forgot it for like two hours and the water turned cold lmao.
