Update: my pan was sticky after every seasoning, then I tried the oven upside down trick
For about 3 months my cast iron kept coming out sticky after I seasoned it, no matter how little oil I used. A guy at the hardware store in Boise told me to put the pan upside down in the oven at 450 for a full hour and put foil on the rack below to catch drips. I tried it on my 10 inch skillet last Saturday and the finish came out smooth and dry instead of tacky. The real fix was flipping it so the extra oil runs off instead of pooling in the pan. Has anyone tried this with a dutch oven, or does the lid change things?
