Vent: My cast iron skillet became my zero-waste kitchen hero

I started using cast iron after seeing how many pans I tossed each year. My old non-stick ones would chip and end up in the trash. Now, I have one skillet that does everything, from frying to baking. I clean it with just a bit of salt and a potato scrub, no chemicals. This pan has lasted me through countless meals without any waste. It feels good to cook without hurting the planet. I even use leftover oil from cooking to keep it seasoned. What are your tips for making cast iron care more green?

When you say it feels good to cook without hurting the planet, I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but I see it differently. Cast iron takes a lot of energy and stuff to make, so it's not all that green from the start. Using oil to keep it seasoned means more oil use, which has its own effect. Plus, if it ever cracks or rusts out, you can't really recycle it easily. It's great for lasting long, but calling it zero-waste feels like a stretch to me.

My grandpa's skillet is older than my dad. How many pans would that have replaced?

Read that the energy to make it gets offset over years.
