Vent: someone at the flea market told me dish soap ruins cast iron
Overheard a vendor yell at a buyer for using soap on their pan. Told them that's just old wives' talk - modern soap is fine, you just gotta dry it right after. Anyone else tired of hearing that myth repeated?.

Right? People act like soap will melt the iron or something, it's fine.

Yeah Oscar that "soap melts the iron" thing gets me too. I've heard people say it so often I started wondering if maybe they thought dish soap was made of acid or something. Honestly I used soap on a cast iron pan for years before I knew it was supposedly a sin and the pan is still going strong. It's probably the same folks who think seasoning is some kind of magic spell you can't mess with.
