Reminded my dad about how we used to fight over the Cocoa Pebbles milk back in 2001
So my sister came by my place in Sacramento last week with a box of Cocoa Pebbles for old times sake, and the second I poured that milk out I got hit with this weird memory. Back in like 2001 we lived in this little house off Watt Ave, and my brother and I had an actual rule about who got the leftover milk, loser of rock paper scissors had to dump it in the sink. My dad caught us one night and just stared at us like we were from another planet, told us he used to do the exact same thing with his brothers over Captain Crunch in the 70s but they would never, ever pour it out, they took turns sipping straight from the bowl. Fast forward to now and my sister and I stood in my kitchen doing a whole tasting thing, swishing it around and guessing how long it sat, which honestly felt kind of silly. The milk was still good though, thick and dark and way sweeter than I remembered, maybe because we used 2 percent back then and I buy whole now. Anyway it got me thinking about how nobody I know even talks about this stuff out loud, like the leftover milk is this secret little ritual everyone has but never admits to. What did your family do with the bowl at the end, did someone claim it or did it just go down the drain?
