Am I the only one who thinks you can get a great sear on a steak in a regular non-stick pan?

Everyone at my last kitchen job swore you needed cast iron, but I had to cook a filet for a catering gig last week and my cast iron was in the truck, so I used a heavy non-stick instead on a high burner. It developed a perfect, even crust in about four minutes per side, no sticking at all. Has anyone else had this work for them, or did I just get lucky?

I've gotten a solid crust on a steak in a non-stick pan before too.

Wait, are you saying you actually got a decent sear on a non-stick? That's honestly impressive, I've always been too scared to try it.
