Banana for scale became banana for real during a dinner service last Saturday

I was plating a dessert at the Bayside Grill in Miami and a line cook handed me a banana instead of a plantain for the caramelized topping. Didn't notice until i dropped it on the plate and the whole thing went mushy and slid right off. I had to scrape it off and start over while the waiter stood there staring at me. Anyone else have a swap out that messed up a whole plate?

Ha, your boy turned your dessert into baby food real quick. Bet the waiter's face was priceless when you had to peel that mess off the plate.

a line cook handed me a banana instead of a plantain" - nah man that's not the same thing at all. Plantains are way starchier and hold up to heat. Bananas turn to baby food in two seconds. Feel bad for you having to scrape that off, that's a rough way to start a Saturday night.

Oh man, that reminds me of a buddy who grabbed what he thought was a plantain at the store and made tostones with a regular banana. He said it turned into a sticky glue mess on the pan and he was so mad he just ordered pizza instead.
