Had to choose between a $40 turner or a $7 one last month
I was prepping for a busy Saturday brunch and my old fish spatula finally snapped at the handle. I grabbed a cheap one from the restaurant supply store for 7 bucks thinking it would get me through the weekend. By Sunday afternoon the handle was already loose and wobbly. Ended up spending 40 on a solid stainless steel one from the kitchen shop down the street and it's been rock solid for 3 weeks now. Anyone else find that kitchen tools either break fast or last forever with no middle ground?

My go-to move is buying the cheap version first to "test it out" and then immediately regretting it when the handle flies off mid-flip and my omelet lands on the floor. I've got a graveyard of cruddy kitchen tongs and flimsy spatulas in the back of a drawer that I refuse to throw away out of pure spite. Maybe it's just me but I swear tools know when you're in a rush and pick that exact moment to break.

Oh man, @the_skyler you're speaking my language with that graveyard of spite spatulas... I've got a drawer full of junk too that I keep around just to remind myself not to cheap out again. It's like the universe has a personal vendetta against us when we're in a hurry, I swear. That loose handle on the 7 dollar one drove me crazy within hours, not even a full day of use. I think some things are worth the extra money upfront, and kitchen tools are definitely on that list. Good tools just work better and last longer, no contest.
