I was cleaning out my old kitchen locker and found my first set of knives from culinary school in '08.

I mean, the difference between those cheap stamped blades and the single-bevel Japanese gyuto I use now is crazy, and it really shows how much the focus has shifted from just getting the job done to respecting the tool and the craft, you know?

Remember finding your old gear like that? Honestly, it really does show how you grow to care more about the tools over time. Tbh that shift in focus is the whole point of getting better at something.

Used to just grab the cheapest guitar picks I could find, the kind that would snap in a week. Finding a box of those old brittle ones really hit me, like @juliaa25 said. Now I save up for a single good pick that fits my grip and lasts for years. That care for the tool itself, even something small, really does feel like part of the skill.
