My backup immersion blender gave out during a big soup service

It was a Saturday night rush and the motor just smoked out halfway through a 20 gallon batch of butternut squash. Had to grab a hotel pan and a spider to manually puree it, took forever. Anyone have a brand that can handle high volume without burning up?

Used to doubt them, but a Waring commercial unit survived my kitchen for years.

Ever wonder if the commercial grade stuff is just a marketing trick? That's a solid point from @christopherwilliams, because those units are built totally different (heavier duty motor, different switches). For a home kitchen, you're right, a regular one might die in a year with heavy use. The real trick is knowing if you actually need that power, or if you're just blending smoothies once a week.

Remember that old Oster blender my mom had? Thing ran for twenty years making milkshakes and soup. Now my new one sounds sick after six months of just crushing ice. Maybe they just don't build them to last anymore, commercial grade or not. Makes you miss when stuff wasn't designed to break.
