Spent 45 minutes peeling garlic for a single service and wanted to scream

Had to prep 12 pounds of garlic for a 200-cover Saturday and my dumb ass thought peeling each clove by hand was faster than shaking them in a bowl. 45 minutes in and I was only halfway done, my fingers are still sticky three days later. How do you guys actually deal with bulk garlic prep without losing your mind?

Wait, shaking them in a bowl actually works way faster though?

Shaking them in a bowl works way faster because you're using momentum instead of picking at each one. The trick is to put just enough water to cover the seeds, not a whole sink full or they won't bounce around right. I've found that a plastic bowl with a lid works best since it gives a better seal than a plate on top. Some people add a pinch of salt to the water to help break down the membrane, but your mileage may vary on that one. Just be careful not to shake too hard or you'll end up with seed pulp everywhere.
