Warning: That $50 copper pan from the flea market was a total disaster

I bought this shiny copper pan at a flea market in Detroit for $50. Looked amazing on my stove, but the lining was all messed up and food started sticking after three uses. I tried to season it like cast iron, but it just made things worse. Now I'm out the money and have a pan that's basically a decoration piece. Is it even worth trying to re-line a cheap pan like that, or should I just toss it? Anyone else get fooled by a budget copper pan that looked too good to be true?

Read an article that said most cheap copper pans are just steel with a thin copper coating. The copper wears off fast. Real copper pans are thick, like 2-3mm, and cost hundreds. $50 is way too cheap for the real deal. The lining is probably aluminum or tin, and once it's damaged you can't fix it yourself. Re-lining costs more than a new cheap pan. I'd use it as a wall hanger or for plant pots. Save up for a solid stainless pan next time.

Trust me, just toss it. I've been down that exact road (bought a similar pan at a garage sale in Ohio) and re-lining costs more than a good stainless pan new. The thin copper coating starts flaking off and then you're eating metal particles with your eggs. It's not worth the headache unless you really love scrubbing and crying. Use it for decoration or drill a hole in the bottom and turn it into a planter. Save yourself the $100+ for a real pan down the road.
