Worst brunch service I've had in 5 years, what a disaster
Honestly, last Sunday was just brutal. We got slammed with a 40-top walk-in at 11am, no warning, and my expo station fell apart because the new guy kept mixing up tickets. I had to refire 3 eggs benedicts because the hollandaise broke twice, and my sauté cook burned a whole flat of bacon when the fire alarm went off for 15 minutes. The GM just stood there watching, didn't lift a finger to help run food or anything. By the end, I had 8 complaints on the bill and two tables walked out without paying. Has anyone else had a shift where everything just piled on at once like that?

You said the GM "just stood there watching" and I have to ask - was this the same GM who scheduled the labor on Sunday? Because that's the part that gets me. A 40-top walk-in with a new expo guy and no backup plan? That's not bad luck, that's bad management. Did the GM even apologize to the tables that walked out, or did they just write it off as "one of those days"? I've worked places where the GM would have been on the line running food with us instead of watching the disaster unfold.

People just stand around watching stuff fall apart more and more these days. At the grocery store you'll see a manager walk past a spill on aisle three and not bother to grab the mop. At the gas station the cashier will watch you hunt for a clean window squeegee and say nothing. Nobody wants to step in and fix things anymore because they're afraid of getting in trouble or they just don't care. That GM probably figured if he stayed out of it, nobody could blame him for the mess. Works the same way everywhere now.
