After a close call, I now double-check my harness before every climb. Is that overkill?

Some sweeps say a quick visual is enough, but I've seen falls from missed snaps, lol. Where do you stand?

Used to skip checks, but a close call changed my mind.

Yeah that "close call" thing hits home. I almost left my car unlocked all night last week because I was carrying too many grocery bags. Woke up to find the glove box hanging open and my manual on the passenger seat. Nothing was taken, but it felt so violating. Now I do a full pat-down check for keys and locks every single time I walk away.

A quick visual check assumes your eyes are working at 100% every single time, but fatigue or distraction can mess that up. My hands don't get distracted in the same way, so a physical touch check of each point adds a different layer of safety. It takes ten extra seconds for a routine that could literally be the difference between life and death. What's the actual downside to being that sure?
