Dropped $200 on a fancy brush set that didn't work worth a damn

Bought those angled brushes with the carbon fiber handles from a chimney supply catalog. Looked great online. First real job on a masonry flue and they kept slipping on creosote buildup. Couldn't get a good scrape. Went back to my old $30 straight brushes and finished in half the time. Anyone else get burned by fancy gear that just looks good?

Yeah that's rough man, I feel you. Two hundred bucks down the drain and they can't even handle creosote? That's the whole point of a masonry brush. I've been there with those fancy cleaning brushes that promise to cut through anything but really just smear the mess around. It sucks when the nice looking gear turns out to be all style and no substance. Sounds like you know your tools though, sticking with what works even if it's ugly. Hope you can return that set or at least get your money back somehow.

You know what that reminds me of, I bought this expensive "professional grade" ash shovel once from a supply catalog. Looked like a tank. First time I used it on a cold stove the handle snapped clean off. Still got that cheap old one I found at a flea market holds up better than anything.
