Everyone says to use a wire brush on every job, but I switched to poly bristles for my regular cleans.
I had a choice between sticking with my trusty steel wire brush or trying a new poly bristle one from a trade show in Boise. I picked the poly brush for a standard clean on a newer brick chimney in a suburban home. After three months of using it weekly, I've noticed less dust in the house and the customer feedback has been great. Has anyone else made a switch like this and seen different results?

Yeah, the dust thing is real... I've been using poly on newer brick for about a year now and it's just cleaner. Less mess for me, less for the homeowner to complain about later.

Honestly, I'm sticking with my steel brush for most jobs. That poly bristle just doesn't cut through the heavier soot and creosote on older chimneys the same way. I tried it once and felt like I was going over the same spot forever. Maybe it's fine for light duty on new brick, but for a real clean, I need the bite of steel. Doesn't the extra time it takes cancel out the dust benefit?
