Found creosote buildup that looked like tar on a 2-year old liner
Pulled a liner out of a house near Portland last week and the creosote was thick as roofing tar, not the usual flaky stuff. Has anyone else seen that kind of buildup on a liner that was barely installed?

Did you try scraping some off and seeing if it smelled like jet fuel? I had a job up in the mountains where the homeowner was burning nothing but pressure-treated scrap and the creosote looked exactly like that, thick and gooey like someone spilled asphalt. I tried to scrape it with a putty knife and the blade just skidded off, it was that sticky. Made me feel like a real dummy for not wearing a Tyvek suit, I looked like a chimney sweep after a bad bender.

Lean into it then lol. I bet if you scraped a chunk off and held a lighter to it, that stuff would burn hotter than the sun itself. Pressure treated wood lets off some serious fumes when it burns, that creosote is basically concentrated toxic waste. I'd be more worried about the guy's kids playing in the yard than the chimney.
