Got a call for a blocked flue in a 1920s house in Pasadena last month

The homeowner said they had a small fire a week before. When I got up there, the whole thing was packed solid with old mortar droppings from a bad repointing job. Took me four hours with rods and a heavy duty brush to clear it. The liner was actually in good shape, but the blockage was so bad I had to use a vacuum from the roof down. Now I always ask about recent masonry work before I even schedule the clean. Anyone else run into this kind of mess from a sloppy repair?

Ever check if they tried to fix it themselves first?

That Pasadena job sounds rough. Honestly, I've seen more blockages from old nests than from bad masonry work.
