Had a chat with a 30 year veteran who said I was cleaning chimneys all wrong
I was swapping stories with this old timer named Jerry at a supplier meetup last Tuesday and he told me I was using way too much pressure on my brush. He said I was probably just compacting the soot instead of actually removing it, and that a light touch with the right rod angle does more in half the passes. Has anyone else had to unlearn a basic habit like that after years of doing it your own way?

Totally get that... it's humbling when someone with that much experience points out something so basic you've been doing wrong for years.

Start asking @ninasanchez what that basic thing was. I'm curious because I've had the same kind of wake up calls and they always stick with you. The worst ones for me were about stuff I thought I had down cold, like keeping my workspace clean or how I talked to customers. It's crazy how the little things can be the biggest blind spots. What was your moment of truth about?
