Was it actually broken or just clogged up? I've had brushes seem dead but they just needed a good soak in mineral spirits.

Try soaking it in mineral spirits overnight. That fixed my stiff brush last month when nothing else worked. Sometimes the paint just gets jammed up in the ferrule.

Saw a video where someone said mineral spirits can break down old oil paint in the bristle base... makes sense if it's just a clog. Might save a brush from the trash.
