Old timer told me I was brushing wrong for 10 years
Guy in Spokane watched me do a job and said I was pushing soot back down instead of pulling it out. Switched to a downward stroke on the first pass and the difference in how much less dust I breathe in is insane.

Huh, did anyone mention what type of brush you were using? Bristle stiffness makes a huge difference too, a soft brush can push soot around no matter what direction you go. Way less dust is the real win though, your lungs will thank you later.
