Stubborn creosote blockage in a 1920s flue in Beacon Hill

I thought a simple brush and rod job would clear it, but a massive creosote plug about 3 feet down had basically turned to tar. It took me and my apprentice a full 8 hours over two days, using a heavy duty rotary loop system and a lot of patience, to finally break through. Anyone else run into a historic chimney that just refused to give up its gunk?

Heard about a buddy who fought a similar tar monster in an old Victorian for three whole days.

Sounds like your buddy got tricked into a long fight, those things usually give up after a day.

Never thought of it that way... but yeah, that makes sense now.
