That bird nest that took me 3 hours to remove from a zero-clearance fireplace

I had a job last Tuesday in a zero-clearance prefab where the homeowners hadn't used it in 5 years. There was a massive bird nest jammed up in the smoke chamber and I had to use a shop vac with a special attachment to even get near it. Has anyone else dealt with a nest that took way longer than expected in one of these tight units?

Oh man, I feel your pain on this one. Had almost the exact same thing happen last spring in a zero-clearance unit that hadn't been used in years. The nest was so packed in there I ended up having to take the whole shop vac hose apart to get it to fit and it still took like 4 hours with all the breaks to clean up the debris.

4 hours? That's brutal. I thought my 2 hour ordeal was bad. You must have had a good view of that hose when you took it apart though, saw every nook and cranny. Makes me wonder if I should just pay a pro next time.
