That clogged cap at the old Miller place taught me a lesson
Last week I went out to the Miller farmhouse outside Springfield for a routine sweep and found a bird's nest packed so tight it took me 45 minutes to break through. The homeowner had skipped their yearly clean for about 4 years and the creosote buildup was nearly an inch thick in spots. I told them the $180 sweep now beats a $3,000 chimney fire repair any day. Has anyone else run into nests that bad in rural spots, or is it just me?
