That look when you finally get a creosote log that actually works...
I had this one chimney in a 1920s house over in Oakwood that was absolutely caked in that thick, flaky creosote... after three treatments with the standard brush, it barely touched it. Then I tried a different brand of creosote remover log and let it burn for an hour and the difference in the shine was night and day. Anybody else have a brand that actually busts through the stubborn stuff?

Actually those creosote logs are more of a maintenance thing, not a cure for heavy buildup. They work by releasing chemicals that help dry out the creosote so it flakes off easier, but if you've got that thick, shiny third stage stuff, you're gonna need a professional cleaning still lol. I tried one of the anti-creosote sprays once, the kind you spray on the fire before you start it, and it helped a bit on a moderately dirty chimney. But for that really stubborn baked on layer, nothing beats getting a chimney sweep with a rotary brush setup honestly.

Yeah nothing beats getting a chimney sweep with a rotary brush" is pretty much the truth. Those logs and sprays are fine for light upkeep but they're not gonna fix a real mess. Just gotta pay someone to do it right.
