That one Tuesday last fall where everything caught fire (literally)
I had a day last October where I did 3 clean jobs back to back and the last one was this old Victorian in Portland with a clay tile liner that had a crack I almost missed. Found a bird nest the size of a football wedged above it. If that thing had lit up, the whole house would've gone. Anyone else find any crazy blockages lately?

That football sized nest is exactly the kind of thing that gets overlooked. I always run a camera up the liner after a clean now because of stuff like that. I had a raccoon nest in a cap once, packed so tight it took a shop vac to pull it out. If you're doing back to back cleans on old houses, check the crown and cap every time, that's where the hidden problems usually sit.

That Portland Victorian sounds like a classic example of the hidden dangers we all overlook until it's too late, sort of like how I found a blown fuse behind a bookshelf in my own house last week. @bettymurphy is right about checking the crown and cap every time, and it fits a bigger pattern I've noticed where the most obvious problems often have roots in the smallest, most overlooked details. Makes you wonder how many "small things" we're missing in our own daily routines.
