The magnetic sweep I laughed at actually worked on my third job
Picked up one of those cheap magnetic sweepers from the hardware store in Akron last month, figured it was a gimmick. First job, nothing but dust and a few screws, so I almost tossed it in the truck. Then I ran it over a fireplace grate that had been sitting in ash for years, and it pulled out this bent nail and a whole bunch of wire bits I never would've seen by hand. Now I keep it in the bag for every cleanout, but I'm still curious if anyone else uses one on masonry flues or just metal ones. Has it saved you time on the really nasty builds?
