Tried those new silicone cleaning rods and felt like I wasted 3 hours

I picked up a set of those silicone rods for a big job last week on a 12-inch flue. Figured they'd be gentler on the liner and easier to handle, but they just kept snagging on the creosote buildup and bending out of shape. Spent more time pulling them back through and untangling than actual cleaning. Has anyone else had better luck with these things, or is it back to steel brushes for me?

Mate, those silicone rods are garbage the second you hit any real buildup. Steel brush with a good drill adapter saves you the headache and gets the job done in 20 minutes.

Honestly though how bad does it REALLY get? I've been using a basic plastic scraper and haven't had issues in years.
