Warning: That magnetic sweep system you see online is junk

I tried one of those fancy magnetic sweep systems last month on a job in Portland. The magnet lost grip on the third pull and dropped the brush head right into a customer's fireplace. Cost me 200 bucks to have a guy come out and fish it out with a camera. The old school rod and brush method never lets me down. Anyone else get burned by a gimmick tool like that?

You said "dropped the brush head right into a customer's fireplace" and that really got me thinking. Nobody's talking about how these magnetic tools can mess with electronics nearby if you're not careful. I saw a guy try one in a tight crawlspace and his phone compass went haywire, plus the magnet attracted every screw and nail within two feet. So you're dealing with losing equipment but also potential damage to smart home gadgets or data on devices you're carrying. It's not just a grip issue, it's a whole other headache most people overlook.

It's like everything these days has some hidden tradeoff nobody warns you about. You think you're solving one problem and you just end up with three new ones staring back at you.
