Hit 1,000 miles on my bike commute this year, didn't even notice

I was looking at my bike app last night out of boredom and saw I crossed 1,000 miles for the year. That's just from riding to work and back, nothing fancy. It hit me that's about 200 pounds of CO2 I didn't put in the air compared to driving my old sedan. I live in Portland so the weather isn't always great, but having a rain jacket makes it doable. Has anyone else tracked their mileage and been surprised by the number?

Wait, hold on, you're telling me you hit a thousand miles just from going back and forth to work? That's wild, I would've guessed you'd need to take a bunch of long rides on the weekends to get that high. I mean, I live in a flat city and my commute is only like three miles each way, so I'd have to ride for almost a whole year straight to even come close.

Wait, think about the math for a second though. I mean, if you commute five days a week, that's 260 trips a year. At three miles each way, that's like 780 miles just from work alone, not counting any weekend errands or joyrides. Idk, maybe it's just me but I feel like we underestimate how much we actually move around in our daily lives. Like, I used to think I wasn't a "cyclist" but then I added up my grocery runs and coffee shop trips and realized I'm basically riding almost every day without meaning to. It creeps up on you, honestly.
