I was pretty sure electric heat pumps were a scam until my December bill arrived
I grew up thinking heat pumps were just expensive AC units that barely worked in the cold. My buddy in Minnesota swore by his Mitsubishi unit even when it hit 15 below. I figured he was just coping with a bad purchase. But last February my gas furnace kicked the bucket and I had to pick something fast. The local HVAC guy, Mike from Portland, showed me his own bill from January: $87 for a 2,400 square foot house fully heated. I did the math on my last three gas bills and they averaged $210. I'm two months into my own heat pump now and my electric bill actually dropped $40 compared to last month. Has anyone else here made the switch and seen their bills go down?

You're comparing a single $87 bill to your old $210 average. I'd wait a full year before calling it a win, especially if you live somewhere that actually gets cold.
