Just read that switching to a heat pump water heater cuts CO2 by 2 tons a year
I was looking up options for my old gas water heater in Austin and stumbled on a study from the Rocky Mountain Institute. They said a standard electric heat pump model saves about 2 metric tons of CO2 annually compared to gas. That's like not driving a car for 4 months. Anyone here made the swap and noticed a big difference in their electric bill?

Just swapped mine out last month and I'm still walking around checking if my water's actually hot because I can't believe it works. @the_sage that's wild you dropped $30 in Austin where the AC is basically running 24/7. My bill went down about $25 but I'm also paranoid I'm using more hot water now just to justify the switch to myself. Feels weird to have a water heater that doesn't sound like a jet engine starting up.
