Last week my neighbor's basement flooded because of a clogged drain he ignored for months

I live near Portland where we had that big rainstorm last Tuesday. My neighbor Dave kept saying his yard drain was slow but never cleaned it out. Now he's got 4 inches of water in his basement and his furnace is ruined. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of drainage issue after heavy rain?

Used to think a bit of water in the yard was no big deal, but seeing Dave's ruined furnace changed my mind completely. A few minutes with a snake or a shop vac could have saved him thousands of dollars in repairs. Now I make sure to check my drains before every big storm, no exceptions.
