My backyard compost bin finally broke down a whole avocado pit in 3 weeks
I've been tossing avocado pits in my compost bin for years and they always just sit there looking like weird rocks. Last month I started crushing them with a hammer before throwing them in and keeping the pile a little wetter than usual. Anyone else found a weird trick that made their compost work way faster?

Hammer trick works. But three weeks for an avocado pit? That seems fast. Maybe it was softer than usual or the bin hit that perfect sweet spot of heat and moisture. People get real excited about tiny improvements in composting speed. It's still just dirt in a box.
