My landlord's 5 minute solar panel tip cut my electric bill in half

So my landlord in Austin caught me complaining about my $140 summer power bill and just said 'clean the panels with vinegar and water, not soap.' I figured he was full of it, but I tried it on my little 3 panel setup last month. Turns out the soap film was blocking way more light than I thought, my bill dropped to $68 this month. Has anyone else had weird simple fixes like this for their home solar, or is my landlord just some kind of solar wizard?
