My neighbor insisted that planting a tree on the south side of my house would lower my AC bill, and after 3 summers of tracking it, my electric bill dropped by $22 a month in July.

I thought he was crazy since the tree was only 6 feet tall when I planted it, but now at 15 feet tall it shades my entire bedroom window from noon to 4pm has anyone else actually tested shade tree placement with real electric numbers?

Did you track if the tree helped with your AC running less often or if it was just running more efficiently? I wonder if the real savings came from keeping your bedroom cooler overall versus just shading the window.

That's a solid data point right there. Glad you actually tracked the numbers over a few years, most people just guess and move on.
