He explained how net metering works in our area, and I had no idea you could basically bank your excess daytime power for night use. He showed me his app where he tracked 342 kWh exported last month alone, and that got me curious about my own roof's potential. I went home and checked my utility's rate structure, turns out they pay back 90% of the retail rate for exports. Frank’s line about the grid being the battery is exactly how most big decisions feel once someone strips the hype away, same thing happened to me when a buddy explained why I should fix my AC before thinking about a new fridge.
