Rent a heat pump water heater before you buy one
My old tank died last month and I almost dropped $1,800 on a new one. Then my buddy at the supply house said to check with the utility in Portland first. They rent heat pump units for $15 a month including install and service. First electric bill dropped $40 already. Anyone else try a rental program through their local utility?

Wait, $15 a month INCLUDING install and service? Thats insane. My buddy pays that much for a gym membership he barely uses. The fact that your bill already dropped $40 in one month basically pays for the whole rental fee and then some. Plus you dont gotta worry about the repair costs when something breaks, which always happens at the worst time. Portland really got it going on with that program, I gotta see if any utilities around here offer something similar.
