Showerthought: felt smug about my solar panels until I checked the numbers

I was bragging to my neighbor about my rooftop solar setup, then I looked at the app and saw I’ve only offset like 2% of my annual energy use in 6 months. Found out from a local energy audit that my house is so leaky it cancels out the gains. Anyone else find their “green” habit is actually just a drop in the bucket?

I felt the same way until I sealed up my attic and crawl space. After doing that plus the solar, my bills actually dropped a noticeable amount. It might be worth checking.

Sigh yeah that hurts. Honestly I felt the same way when I first got my solar setup. I thought I was saving the planet and my wallet but the numbers just didn't add up. Its actually kind of embarrassing to admit but I was so focused on the shiny panels I ignored all the other stuff. Sealing up the house makes a huge difference though, my buddy did the same thing and his bills dropped like crazy. So dont feel too bad about it, you're not alone in this mess. Just gotta keep chipping away at it.
