Still seeing folks in my neighborhood bagging grass clippings for the trash truck

Those clippings are free nitrogen for your lawn and I watched a guy throw 12 bags of them to the curb yesterday, has anyone else noticed how many people still don't know this?

Right, "free nitrogen for your lawn" is exactly what I tell people but they look at me like I'm speaking a different language. My neighbor has a perfect lawn, mows it every Saturday without fail, and then bags up every single clipping and puts them on the curb. I asked him once why he doesn't just leave them on the grass and he said it makes the lawn look messy. So I guess looking neat is more important than having a nice thick lawn that doesn't need as much fertilizer? I don't know seems like a lot of extra work for nothing.

Bagging clippings actually can spread lawn weeds if your neighbor isn't careful. The mower chops up seeds from dandelions or crabgrass, then putting them in the bag just moves the problem to the compost pile. Meanwhile the clippings left on the grass break down and keep the soil healthy naturally. His perfect lawn might be costing him more in weed killer later.
