The rental car vs my own car for a 200 mile trip

I had to drive from Denver to Fort Collins for a wedding last month and debated between renting a fuel efficient sedan or taking my old truck that gets 14 mpg. The rental was $68 for the day plus gas, but my truck burns through a tank like it's nothing. I did the math on the rental and figured the extra cost was worth cutting my emissions nearly in half for that one round trip. Picked the rental, a little Hyundai, and honestly it felt weird spending money to pollute less. But then I thought about how I drive that truck to work every day without thinking about it, and this one choice felt like a drop in the bucket. Anyone else ever paid extra just to shrink their footprint for a single event, or do you just stick with what you own? Curiosity got me on whether the guilt factor actually changes behavior long term.

Funny how we pick and choose where the guilt shows up, right? Like, the math on the rental makes sense but the real deal is we all drive gas guzzlers daily and just tune it out. That one clean trip feels good but it's basically a tiny patch on a giant hole, and I doubt most people actually change their habits long term because of it.
