Warning: My apartment's power bill dropped by $30 a month after one simple change

I live in a hot place like Phoenix and my AC was always running. I saw a tip online about setting the thermostat just 2 degrees higher, to 78, and using a basic box fan. I tried it for a full billing cycle and the drop was real. Has anyone found other small tweaks that actually save a lot of energy?

Honestly, that fan trick is a game changer lol. My grandma used to swear by keeping the blinds shut tight during the day, like full blackout mode. I finally tried it last summer and it felt way less like an oven in there by 5pm, the AC didn't kick on as much. It sounds so simple but it really does trap the heat out.

That "full blackout mode" is interesting. Did you notice if it made the rooms feel stuffy or closed in during the day, or was the trade-off for a cooler evening totally worth it?

Yeah I've tried the full blackout thing a few times and honestly it doesn't do it for me. The rooms get this weird stale feeling during the day like the air just sits there and doesn't move. I'd rather crack the blinds a bit and let some airflow happen, even if it means the AC works a little harder later on.
