Was skeptical about solar film on windows, now I'm a believer

My electric bill in Phoenix hit $280 last July and I was desperate. A buddy told me to try Gila brand solar film on my west-facing windows for $30 a roll. After 3 months my bill dropped to $195 in October even with the AC still running. Has anyone else had luck with a specific brand or type of window film?

Yeah I'm just hoping July doesn't find out about my cheap fix.

Phoenix summers are brutal so I get it, but you actually can't compare July to October for a true test since October is way cooler naturally. Gila does work though, just saying the weather change helped a ton too.
