Ran into him at a shop in Bakersfield last month while picking up a used Kurt vise, and he swore his inserts last longer running aluminum dry because the coolant was thermal shocking the edge. I've been flooding every aluminum job since my first day at the shop in 2018, so hearing that made me go back and check my insert wear logs, and honestly the numbers aren't as clean as I thought. Has anyone here actually run dry on 6061 for production runs, and did your tool life go up or did you just trade one problem for another?
