Bought a cheap touch probe, got burned, then replaced it with a decent one

Last month I grabbed a $90 touch probe off an auction site thinking I was slick. It worked for about 12 parts before the stylus started giving false triggers and I scrapped a whole batch of aluminum brackets. That mistake cost me more in material and rework than the probe itself. I finally broke down and spent $340 on a used Haimer from a guy in Ohio, and the difference is night and day. No more guessing on the Z offset, and my cycle times dropped because I stopped rechecking everything. Anyone else try to save money on metrology gear and regret it within a week?
